Ok... getting really upset

So this is my first year... I know, starting off like that is never good in this section but here I go. my first couple of tries, my incubation medium was too wet/dry so I had eggs molding/denting... lost a lot of eggs due to my ignorance. Well, I FINALLY got it right with the help of a friend and it would seem that I am now doing something else completely wrong. I had (what seemed like overnight) all of my eggs in one container all turn brown and dent and the smell was horrific, bear in mind I had also just misted them with moss over the top of them (because I saw a few dents starting to form on a couple of them). I don't handle them, I pop the incubator open once a day to let in new air, then put the lid back on. Temps stay at a constant 82... used Albey's method with the incubation medium... any reason why I would've lost all in one container (about 10 eggs)... also, bear in mind, that I did have ONE egg hatch out, and she is doing AWESOME... so yeah, for my first year, one egg out of 30.... any help would be appreciated.

With Albey's method, do you have to re-mist every... 30 days or so... maybe I missed that? I know, a lot of questions in one post but any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, that's too often! :main_yes: Once a week, at he most, should be enough. If you put a few holes in the container, you shouldn't have to open them at all.

Nope, sounds right. Are you sure the eggs you're incubating are fertile? Maybe some aren't?

Absolutely not! If you do it correctly, there is no need to add water during the entire cycle. What you really need to make sure you set everything up correctly is an accurate scale. :main_yes:

Ok, THANKS!!!! What Ive gathered is that possibly the eggs are denting (originally) due to me opening up the incubator too much. Once a week??? Really? How do I know if theres a hatched baby in there? It kills me!!! I hate the waiting.

if you see that the eggs are denting all I do when that happens is I cover them with the medium and leave a small part on top uncovered for air flow to the egg and it always works for me,you should not have to mist them at all if your medium is correct and is sounds like you should add only about one mist after you do the medium and make sure there is no eggs in the medium when you mist it as the eggs should not get wet at all or they will mold and die.

I have found for best results using Albey's method:

--get incubation containers with a clear top so you can see what's going on without opening the container

--do not put airholes in the containers

--open each container once weekly for a few seconds for air exchange

--if you see an egg denting, if it's within a week or so of when it should hatch, leave it alone. If not, either put a small piece of damp paper towel over it for a day or give it 1-2 mist squirts. If it's still denting after that, it's a problem with the egg, not the humidity.

Good luck,

What kind of Incubator are you using?

What kind of thermostat?

What size containers are you using for your eggs?

Maybe a picture of how you have it setup will shine some light for us.

Those are your best results. What works best for you may not work best for everybody. ;)

That's definitely true and I only meant to speak for myself. My reason for posting as I did is that I was pointing out the differences between what I understood the poster to be doing and what I'm doing, both of us using Albey's method. He has one hatchling and I am past 60, closing in on 100.
