I got some wood from outside. Would it be ok if I left it in a bleach bath for about an hour and then let it dry out. Do I actually HAVE to put it in the oven to make sure I kill everything off. I could if I have to but I don't want to anoy my fellow housemates:)

to treat wood, i'd put it in a bucket of water and change the water daily until it is relatively clear. bleach, sodium hypochlorite, will not come out by drying in the oven.

soaking and rinsing in a bucket is how we do it for fish; if it's safe for fish, it'll be fine for herps.

it may never come out completely and i wouldn't recommend using household bleach on any porous surface.

I assure you the oven will kill anything living in the wood, but will not cure it. We have a lumber mill at work and after cutting custom lumber cure it in a kiln for weeks.

When I sanitize a new piece of wood, I would soak it in soap water overnight, then use a tooth brush or something to scrub it, rinse thoroughly. Then bake for 45 minutes until it dries completely.

The baking will kill off anything that is living inside the wood e.g. mites, spiders.

Don't bleach it, way too dangerous - use a special reptile disinfectant if possible or just wash it with soap and water and then bake :)

I'm not sure on the mouldy problem, I've not experienced that :main_huh:
