what is the best way to fatten up a gecko that is a fussy eater at times and can refuse any food for 2 days thne eat fine the next to get her up to the weight of her tank mate ?

i feed size to hoppers and mealworms

i got her to eat 3 hoppers earlyer today and will feed her again later to see what she will take

i just gave hook some of his food he had 1 hoppers and 7+ mealworms

they always have mealworms in a dish and they both do eat out of it

PS
i got her in june and she was still little

The other thing too is that some just grow faster than others and you may not be able to get her at the size of the tank mate. What is their weight difference?

one of my geckos was barely growing, at least nothing like my other gecko so i started feeding her superworms at one per day since she is little. since then she has hit a growth spurt and grew 6 grams in 4 days. worth a try. :)

Nothing is better than waxies for picky eaters because I have never met a leo that didnt love them.
Two or 3 good size waxies a day for a few weeks will fatten him right up.
Just dont let him get addicted to them ;)

Everyone has their ideas about wax worms. I've fed waxies to pretty thin geckos (one or two waxies per day), and also given them their food ration of meal worms, or crickets, and they've eaten those just fine. I've never had the problem of a gecko REFUSING other foods because of the wax worms. I also know that Eric (Oregon Gecko) feeds them to his geckos when they are looking a little thin from breeding, and he has told me they work wonders.

Now I can imagine if you fed straight wax worms for their entire meals, 7 days a week, then tried to get them back on meal worms and crickets, there could be a day or two of refusing. That's like giving a child twinkies and cupcakes for a week, then trying to hand them a salad :main_laugh:. You'll be just fine in giving her/him one or two waxies a day to get some weight on her if you feel she is too thin :main_yes:

Locusts

Being in the UK you have access to one of the superlative of all feeders locusts. Locusta migratoria are the smaller ones nymphs from them should be fine. You might have to clip the back legs depending on the gecko. Here in the states hoppers refer to young rodents. You might also try Pachnoda beetle larva.
