Old Necklace

This is a piece that I totally forgot that I had and I found it again going through some drawers the other day
I think that I picked it up at a yard sale years ago

I know that it is "costume" but it is very heavy and very well made

Anyone have any experience with old jewelery?
Is it worth anything?
just curious

It is way too small for my neck-if I even had anywhere to wear it
:main_rolleyes:
I do really like it

Sorry these pics suck-I took them tonight under an incandescent bulb to show/send to a gf

The large stones are blue and the white leaves look to be mother of pearl
I has an interesting chain and a very sturdy clasp and it is actually a heavy piece

I will try and take some more pics in natural light tomorrow

Ohhh thats very pretty!
Even if its not worth anything its very nice to have.

My cool story is once I found a half caret ring in a purse I bought from goodwill when I was six.
Lol I didn't get to keep it, we pawned it lol

I don't have very much experience with antiques, but the first thing I noticed about the necklace was the chain. I've never seen any type of modern jewelry exhibit a chain made like that, and the only other time I've ever seen a chain like that was on a necklace of my great-great grandmother's. It was kept in the family and I recieved it several years ago. It also was very short in length, I could only wear it as a choker of sorts, and it was extremely heavy. The chain itself easily weighed several pounds. I never thought to have it appraised though.

I have to say that your necklace is much nicer looking than mine was :main_laugh:. It's quite pretty and it's a shame it doesn't fit. But it is always nice to find unexpected treasures.

Thanks so much for your input and the compliments

It is a very short heavy chain and the styling makes me think that it is very old

Sorry no kids/grandkids or God-daughters etc. to pass it on to at the moment-lol

I am just going to hang onto it for a while and enjoy looking at it

Can’t you just get a new chain for it?

If you took it to a jewelry store to have this done, I’m sure they could tell you how much it is worth as well! :main_thumbsup:

I was thinking along those same lines
:main_yes:
I would not want to get a new chain as I really have no where to wear it and I wouldn't want to change it in any way
But it would be interesting to see what a jeweler thinks of it

I may take it in tomorrow as I have some errands to run
I'll keep you posted as to if I find anything out about it

:D

Sandy, does it have any hallmarks on it? Names, symbols, etc.?

No- none that I can see
I got out a magnifying glass and looked the back of the piece over well and I can see no makrs or symbols
Either there was none or it has worn off with time

That was a good question-thanks
