For those of you having a hard time finding egg flats, if you haven't already tried, try calling around to some places that serve breakfast! I get all of my egg flats from a restaurant that moves a ton of eggs, they are always more than happy to hold them for me.

Beat me to it! This is where I got a big stack for free. Just watch for residue from broken eggs and wash that off maybe. Possibly contaminated with salmonella or the like.

phillyfeeders.com has some of the best prices on juvenile and adult dubias I've seen recently.

So got my Dubias yesturday got their tub set up at a nice 91degree's I also ordered 10males and 50females to add to the Roach guys 190. The roach guys stuff came ALL alive and perfect but the lady I bought the adults from I had more DOA's then I would have preferred.

I quartered and orange as I saw numerous vids and sites that said Dubia's LOVE oranges and it may help with breeding...15minutes after I finshed I went to the tub to look at the little buggers and the orange was pretty much GONE!!!!!

And even cooler news yesturday I removed ALLLLLLL Crickets!! All my guys are eating mealies and Dubia's!!! YAY!!!!!!!!

This thread made me laugh. I want to do roaches so bad, but the other half is still grossed out by the mealies and supers! I ordered 250 supers and got them USPS, I have a PO box and had to go to the Post Office to pick them up. Well you could hear them all moving around and the post guy just looked at me and I told he didn't want to know.

Recieved my kit tonight that came with 10 males and 10 - females along with 100 small-mediums.

For the first couple hours I was using tongs and pieces of paper to get some feeders out but as of the last couple hours - I have no problem handling them with my hands...

Same thing happened with mealworms - just takes a lil bit for me to get over the hee bee gee bee's! :main_thumbsup:

I'm going to start taking pics and documenting my colony. I hadn't checked it at all yesterday, and the numbers and weight of the egg crates really surprised me today! Gonna need more lizards to eat all these things OH NOOOO!!!! ;)

Wait until you order from someone and they don't warn you that they're loose in the box. I started to open a box one time and the roaches all started coming out. I'm pretty sure I screamed as I rushed to tape the box back up.

I had a similar incident with a 1000 cricket order I place a couple of months ago. Luckily (somewhat) I went into the garage to open and to put them into an old aquarium. (I obviously had no idea what 1000 crickets looked like). Opened the box and crickets start popping out everywhere. Then when I try to dump the box in the aquarium, I'd say 100 - 200 escaped onto my garage floor. I was doing a similar dance as mentioned here earlier, but it was more for stomping on loose crickets and a much quieter girly shriek (only at the thought of my wife finding crickets running everywhere and stomping on me).

I since bought a large plastic tub and that's where my crickets are kept. But I want to switch to dubais..

Ok so I gotta bump this post to find out how some of the others are fairing!! I can now touch the nymphs with my hands...but I CAN NOT touch an adult!! I lifted an egg crate the other night and an adult must have decided to crawl up my hand where i was holding the egg crate....Again with the "Hee Bee Gee Bee" dance...dropping the egg crate and all the dubia on it!!!!

ICKY IS RIGHT!!!!!! :p :p :p

oddly enough I can handle holding the crickets (Though I definitely don't like it) but the mealies just give me the creeps...I think its the wiggly legs and the way they writhe around in my hand....just makes me wanna scream lol....so I switched to forceps to pick them up....save me from doing the hee bee jee bee dance XD

The day I got my shipment - I spent 30 minutes with tongs trying to get some to put in my feeder bowls. That didnt work - I finally just put a container in the tank - then picked up a peice of egg crate and smacked it on either side of the tank to get the bugs to drop into the feeder dish.

I still had a hard time touching them for a few days but its been about a month or so now and I now have no problem picking up the small to medium sizes.

I still cannot touch an adult - if they touch/grab onto me - I totally do the "hee-bee-gee-bee nasty not gonna let that nasty bug touch me" dance

I think of you everytime it happens!!! :main_laugh:
