OMG! My Gutlei just laid 2 infertile eggs! (some questions)

This morning I woke up and noticed Gutlei's tank was quite messy; one corner of the carpet was digged up, a couple mealworms on the floor and some in the water dish. This was unlike Gutlei as she is usually very neat (unlike some of the boys). So, I looked for her and when I pipped inside her dry hide, I see a white blob; and Gutlei was sleeping under her wood. I removed the wood and hides and realised there are TWO eggs!! (Poor girl, I didn't offer any "diggable" area for her to lay those eggs...)

I have never bred any of my geckos, and I've already kept the girls for more than 6 years now. This is the first time I have a girl laid infertile eggs. Gutlei began ovulating around Jan-Feb; she has been eating less, around 6-10 mealworms per week, which is already very good compared to past years where she will eat absolutely nothing besides the few drops of babyfood slurry I gave her.

A couple questions:
- If she laid one pair of infertile eggs, does it mean she'll develop and lay another pair in 2-3 weeks time? I'll give her a nice big lay box tonight.
- Now she is very tired and sleeping, is she suppose to eat like a pig right after she laid those eggs? Am I suppose to worry if she doesn't eat much tonight?

Thanks.

FYI, she has been living by herself all her life. She has not even been in contact with another female.

Wow that must have really surprised you... If she doesn't eat tonight I'm sure she will tomorrow... Give her plenty of calcium and crickets or some other active prey... If she's healthy her instincts should kick in...

Best of luck Bonnie AND Gutlei!

I had a parrot once that laid a single egg after I'd had her for about 10 years. She won't necessarily lay more eggs, but you can look at her belly in about 10 days and see if there's an egg inside. She may take a day or 2 to get her appetite back. I try to feed the ones who have recently laid every day as opposed to every other day as long as they want it.

Gutlei spent quite some hours looking for the eggs last night, she was wandering near that area and scratching here and there, poor girl! When I check this morning, 5 mealworms are missing from the mealworm dish, I hope she has eaten them.

I don't think that female reptiles have motherly instincts. They just lay the eggs in the best place that they can find and move on.
