I got myself a cricket feeder today and I was looking at different cricket feed. I ended up getting this stuff called "Orange Cube" and it says it's a complete cricket diet.

If it really is what it says it is, it is a much easier and mess-free way to keep the crickets gut-fed for my gecko. I haven't opened it yet though, in case I needed to return it, if there is something better/healthier out there. Has anyone heard about or used this stuff?

Thanks!

Well it depends

I bought that stuff too and have used it a little.

I usually just use the Flucker's dry cricket food.

But, I also put some of the Orange stuff in my cricket keeper hoping that they will get some water out of it.

In reading some of the forum articles on feeding crickets a couple of the posts did not like the Orange stuff becuase the crickets do not eat it.

I also wonder if the crickets eat it because I usually see it all dried up before I really notice that they have eaten any of it.:main_no:

The oats are working well for me, but they pick up the oats and carry them around.

I use the yellow Flukers quencher for water. They dive right on it.

that stuff never sells at my store... i guess the reason is that crickets hate it. i don't keep crickets myself but the ones we have in store prefer fresh fruits and veggies to any packaged cricket foods. they go crazy for zucchini.

Orange cubes will keep crickets alive, but there are a lot better gutloads available. Flukers gutloads are low quality and mostly consists of fillers. Often insects wont even eat it.

You can buy or make your own gutload. The key to a good one is a variety of nutritous dried fruits, vegetables, oats, grains and seeds. Superfoods like bee-pollen and spirulina are good too.

that stuff is kind of pricey and doesnt work too great... we used it for a short time and i found that while some crickets took it, most didnt and they would just dry up... just my experience with it...

My crickets seem to like the orange³ stuff. A friend of mine gave me a few cubes when I got my first batch of crickets. They seemed to like it. They also chew on the egg crate material though. Stupid insects. Lol.

When I used crickets, I found that they generally wouldn't even touch the orange cubes. Mealworms however, seem to enjoy them.

I like to watch my crickets carry around whole oats. It's like they have super powers. :main_yes:

we just tried giving this to the crickets in the store... they act like it's not even there, lol! it smells good though... reminds me of the fruit slices candy my dad used to always bring home.

We used to use that stuff too, and I'm glad we don't buy it anymore after reading this thread lol. We currently use some home-made stuff that we buy at our local reptile store, it's a dry grainy-type food. For water, we use the gelled cricket quencher. I wonder if the crickets hate that stuff too? I figured they were getting water from it, but I find dried up pieces a lot as well.

I've been feeding this to my mini mealworms and small mealworms and they seem to love it... My only problem with it is that it can cause mold to grow in the mealworm bedding, so I have to change my mealworm bedding often.

My crickets, however, could care less. I just started giving them potatoes, carrots, and etc. They go crazy for potatoes.

hmm... if mealworms like it i may pick some up when i have my 30% christmas discount. it's cheaper for me than buying fresh fruits and veggies, even with me and the bugs eating them it still goes bad before it all gets used.
