Other options?

I have been feeding 100% mealworm diets to all of my geckos for quite a while now. They are doing fine eating them, and their weights are right were I want them. I am just curiouse as to other food options that are easily bred, and can be raiised in a bedroom (no noise, not too smelly, etc.) I tried ckrikets once, and that was enough, haha. I was thinking dubia roaches? Any suggestions?

You where thinking in the right direction, dubia roaches!

They are easy to raise, but need heat to breed. A UTH set for about 95F would do it. They make no noise (except when they get big, you can hear them moving around), cant climb smooth surfaces, and dont stink (like crix).

Geckos (like all animals) need a veriety in their diet.

Mealies alone do not provide enough nutrients, whereas crix and roaches can be gut loaded with vegie's fruits, and such.

Mealies do not have much of a gut, and they are high in fat, and low in moisture.

Think of it this way, how would you like to eat nothing but mealies every day?

Wouldnt you want to snack on a cricket or roach for a change? :D

Dubia roaches are great, but another option is Byrsotria Fumigata (Cuban Borrowing Roach). Theyre hard to get a hold of and ive never tried them. Theyre suppposed to be like dubias except smaller which would better suite them for geckos. Roaches in general are easy to breed. They just need egg crates, food, water and heat. Theyre also exceptionally nutritious.

Holler to the forums and me if you need help. They are a breeze to breed, but expensive to start. That is why everyone who feeds them, also breeds them :D
