Our adoption/rescue

Here's our adoption/rescue. We were in Petco and we saw this awesome SHCTB. He was in a hide and we asked to get him out. Well, as I was looking at him while we were waiting on someone, I noticed his back looked strange. Well, we got him out of the hide and it looked like he was bit by an older gecko in the back by the base of his tail. He has no toes on any feet. His tail is kinked and he has little control over the movement in his back left foot, close to where he was bitten (the bite is right over the spine area). Well, we talked to the manger and she definately was happy to let us adopt him since we already have leos. They actually didn't recognize anything was wrong with him until the worker looked at him. :main_no: Well, he's quite fiesty and he's beautiful for only being about a month old. Ya know its amazing that Petsmart and Petco are even still in business for reptiles. I will never buy anything but crickets from them again.

We never thought about a vet visit. I wonder if he really needs one. He's so alert and other than his previous injuries, he's a healthy little guy. He's pretty fiesty too...I feel so bad for him. He's so pretty with his colors. I'm not sure what sex he is. I think it's too early to tell....he will have lots of attention here.

The hip anomalies could be from MBD (though it seems odd that he wouldn't have jaw problems, too). I only say that as the tail kinks cane be from MBD. I see a lighter bit on his waist/back area- is that where you think he got bit? Poor kiddo either way. My gecko that got MBD ended up loosing all but a couple of his toe ends, too- he simply couldn't shed properly with the soft jaw (he can now). Maybe that's why for him... though why I'm trying to be nice to Petco I'm not sure.. more likely he simply didn't have proper humidity and no one bothered to help him out of the shed-ends.:main_angry:

You may want to take him to a vet to get fecals done and a general check up. If you have other geckos you don't want them to spread anything. And making sure that an experienced vet thinks it's just neglect will be good... well, so far as taking care of him from now on is concerned, of course- it's certainly not good for him.

Yeah, that light spot is where we think he got bit. Is MBD the vitamin deficiancy? Matt and I think that may be a problem with this little guy because his limbs are so thin and the left one can't bend at the knee joint...or it's where he got bit. The worker at petco said that he was housed with some larger geckos that they sold. I'll talk to matt about taking him to the vets. There is a reptile vet just up the road from here.

The little guy also had no humidity it his cage....which I think we all know petco doesn't put humid hides in the cage. He still has some shed on his little tail. I made him a humid hide when I got him home and he crawled right into it.

I knew I had to take him home. We were standing infront of his cage and all of the other geckos were climbing back into the hide, but this little guy was coming up to the front of the glass and looking at me like "please take me home!" I would've bought him if they wouldn't have adopted him out. He's so cute!

MBD Is having not enough calcium in the diet, so the bones dont have what they need to grow and end up funky and weak or twisted.

Thanks! He may have MBD. I will wait to see if he sheds properly with the humid hide in his tank, if he doesn't we will take him on a trip to the vets office....Petco should pay for it.
