can someone explain what is a darkening stage? and how does it happen? can i do that to my gecko?

The darkening stage is genetic, something that seems to happen to all Black Pearls.
Technically you could darken your leo's appearance by keeping it a cooler temperatures but it wouldnt be very safe or beneficial to the leo.
And it also would make no difference to offspring.

If you cool a leo to make it darker it is only a temporary thing. The appearance will not be passed on to offspring.
Black pearls go through what TUG have coined "developmental stages", which see the Leo lighten up then get progressively darker again.
