Hi me and my other half have FINALLY (after months of wanting them) got our two baby Leopard Geckos (Winston & Leeroy :main_laugh: ). They are about a month old and the loveliest pets I have ever had!! They both have been eating very well (about 15 crickets each a day) and have fat tails (which I hear is good!! :D ).

We have a moist box, a hide box and a log (specially for them). They also have some fake plants and special gravel (as were told not to have sand). We have a heat mat on one side of the tank (the tank being at least 3 ft long :main_thumbsup: ).

I have noticed a change in Leeroy in the last day or so; she/he has been spending a lot of time (day & night) right next to the heat mat and does not seem to be eating as well as has been... do you think that this is because she is too cold? We are going to get a lamp of some sort tomorrow as well as a thermometer. Do you think it could be anything else? And have you got any recommendations for lamps we should get?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Welcome to Geckoforums! This is a great group of people!

To answer some of your questions: A couple things, first the best substrate (IMO) is a solid one (ie, tile, papertowel, repti-carpet, etc). The reason not to have sand is for impaction purposes, I would be concerned about the gravel as well. If you do a search on the forums you find LOT of info & cool ideas on housing set ups.

Second, how warm is it on top of the substrate above the UTH? (A good digital Thermometer with probe is best, if you don't already have one) The hot side should be ~88-92 degrees on the surface - not air temp & the cool side should be 70-75 degrees. Usually, an overhead heat source is not needed unless you live in a cold place & the air temps of your home are cold. Check your ground temps first.

Lastly, what gender are your two lovely pets? Be sure to house them together only if both are female & the same size. Otherwise, you will have fights or pre-mature mating.

Sorry for the long post! :)

Welcome to the forum! Be assured, you'll find all the answers you need here. Take a look through the Housing section and you'll see pics of other members' set ups as well as advice on heating, substrates, etc. Take some pics and post them so we can see your Leos!

Hi liljenn, sorry for late reply. We're not sure on the sexes, we were told that they could be housed together as they were from the same hatchling? Is there ways to tell what their sex is even though they're only like 2 months old?
