Overagressive Male during breeding

I have a male who is only 55 grams and I placed him with a female last night and this morning I found the female with half its tail almost ripped off. Although it's still connected to her body, it's hanging on by a thread and I cannot imagine it staying on. I am really concerned because I have a group of carrotail 65%+ females that I plan on breeding to this male, and I don't want to risk losing their tails. Does anyone have any tips on making the males more timid?

Perhaps the female was not receptive to the male, and this is why he bit her so hard?

I did have a very aggressive male once... he bit one female in the abdomen so hard that her organs came out, and bit another female on the head so bad it took the entire top layer of her skin off down to the skull. Fortunately, both females survived with veterinary treatment, and the male now lives in a 'single gecko household'.

I was going to say the same thing , if the females are receptive they shouldn't give him any trouble and males will usually get down to business. nip on the side move up to the back of the neck and presto. if females run then it usually gets them more excited and start chasing and grab bitting. That is usually when problems have occurred for me.

anyway good luck with the tail on the one, and I hope those CTs are receptive for him.:D

Please don't take any of this the wrong way.
I would only like to suggest things to help your situation from now on.
First....sure you have a female?......Bred her before? I find it very important to observe the "first dance"with any introduction. The only time that might be near an impossibility is if you are a large breeder or housing them together. In using the male again I would suggest watching the first approach between the two. If at a time when you can't, delay it till you can. I had one large male throw the female across the width of a 40 gal tank. Minor wound but separated at once or it could have been as bad as you described.
Take care and be careful with infection with the female. ... HJ

Forgot to mention. I have found in my matings here that things go smoother, if I introduce the female into the male's home..
