Overdose on antibiotics

Well to make a long story short, there was some miscommunication in my geckos dosage between my girlfriend and I  . She was supposed to get .05 of her oral antibiotics ( eye infection)but instead got about .2 - .3. The med is called enrofloxacim. My dad has a PHD in chemistry and does pharmaceuticals , he said the meds shouldn't hurt her at all. Is there anybody on here with that would know? She took the med about 14 hours ago and she seems just fine now. I called the 24/7 vet and they didn't seem too alarmed by it, I just want to be sure. Thanks

I wouldn't know. I have the eyedrops ofloxacin rather than the oral medication. It's safer to give that way.

Just keep an eye on her, and see if you can continue to get her to drink water from a dropper. Might help move things along if you're concerned about an od.

I would agree with your father- your gecko should be just fine. Most of the research studies on Enrofloxacin (Baytril) are on the oral dosage (LD50 in tested mammals is more than 5000mg/kg for the oral dosage). Even though much less research has been done with ocular usage, you shouldn't have much to worry about.

One thing I really like to do with my clients, is mark the syringe with a sharpie at the correct line so there is no confusion in the pfuture.

Excellent!! See why I said there should be more techs like you in the veterinary field! (in your rants posting). Although .05cc measurement is tough to mark, maybe use a TB U100 syringe and snip the needle off? That way you can give 5 units

True. And I usually use those with my reptile clients. Sometimes I have to go into the whole conversation about how 10 units is equal to 0.1mL because a lot of folks still get really confused.
