Overweight gecko?

I have three cresties in my tank, gotten the same size last year. Two of them (Pat and Sam) are slim (but not skinny) with a nice figure, and still kinda small. The other one, Taylor, is really large, has a shape almost like a watermelon. I mean, he's really really big. And seems to be getting bigger. Is he just overweight? Or do I have a he thats a she (I've never sexed them, hense the gender neutral names), bound with eggs? I'll try to get a picture up a little later.

I would assume that you are right, "he" is probably gravid. Sexing cresties is fairly easy and non-invasive, if you want to give it a try (I believe there are several threads here with pictures that can give you an idea of what to look for). I'm no expert, but my gecko always lays this time of year, so I assume fall is generally the egg season.

Unless you've noticed him bullying the other two geckos (Pat and Sam would most likely have visible injuries), in which case he is probably hogging the food and depriving the others, there is no other explanation for weight gain in only one gecko in the same cage.

Set up a nesting box and add a bit of calcium supplement to the CGD, and Taylor should lay (if that is in fact what s/he's preparing do to) without any problems.

Thanks :). I'll set up a box, I do hope she'll use it (if she is a she). I have quite deep substrate in that terrarium (anywhere from 3- 6", depending on the spot, of plain soil and pet store soil mix).

just throw up a pic of HER and we will confirm she is a girl. Get some clear container or a glass table to set or on and take a picture from below. Good Luck!

Here's Taylor and Pat. Sorry Taylor is so out of focus, I had them in my critter keeper so I could show my parents Taylor (the box in there is what I used to get Taylor, and didn't know Pat was attached also). But conversely, you can see the size difference.

Unfortunately I have not sexed a crested without a tail. So to me it looks like a boy.
Like I said without a tail and this angle it might be a girl.

So after typing that and looking more I am saying its a girl. I do not see two defined hemipenes.

Start a new thread for this hon. It'll get more attention esp. if you title it like that. "11 months old and only weighs 16 grams!!!!:"
