I bought a pair of Leos about 3 weeks ago. They are both around 3 years old. One male and one female. The male has a nice fat tail and decent heavy body. The female was gravid with a very slender tail. I figured that was due to her being gravid. I purchased the pair as breeders. These are my first geckos so I am new to them. I have chameleons and Bearded Dragons and have no problems with them. I figured from what I have heard geckos would be a great addition to the grow. The female had a pair of eggs that were bad 2 days after getting her home. She also had a stuck shed all over her body. I did the baths and put a moist hide in thier tank. She shed again 3 days after getting her in the moist hide. 100% shed. The male is missing over half of his toes from stuck sheds. He also shed after being in the moist hide for 4 days. 100% shed for him to. They both look great now shed wise and skin wise. They are both really tame too. They love to be held. I waited a week to find this out.

My problem is now they wont eat. I have had them for nearly 3 weeks now and they wont eat. I have been giving them a slurry every other day and this has caused them to start pooping but they will not eat. I leave meal worms in for them 100% of the time. I have offered crickets everyday (that was there complete diet at the breeders). They just ignore everything I put in for them. I am really concerned now. I really do not want to loose them. They are both very active yet. What should I do??

equipment:

Blacklight heat bulb on 100% of the time. started out at 14 hours on then shutting off at night. They quit eating so I am trying 24 hrs now

Basking rock is 92 degrees
average tank is low 80's

20 gallon long tank
carpet substrate

moist hide on cool side of tank

hide box on warm side

meal worms 100% of the time

daily fresh water that they use

free choice crushed egg shells, calcium powder, and cap of sand

I use a low blue tinted flourecent light during the day

50 watt reptile night heat lamp at night.

The pet shop said they were all checked for parasites

I do not know what I am doing wrong here for both to not eat. I am getting very concerned I may loose them soon. They act fine now, but how long is that going to last?

Sorry so long!!

well they dont need a basking rock just belly heat really other than that looks fine, i'd get a UTH and make sure the "warm side" doesn't go above 90's, but id ont think that'd stop eating unless they're just really cold, theyre nocturnal, maybe go in later at night and take out the hides and then try to feed a few crix or mealies on the carpet and let them see them may help, just trying to figure some things out is all. and def. TAKE OUT THE SAND, jus tneed calcium powder in one shape or form not that mix, if they've been eating that they may be impacted from the sand and could be a bit of the problem as well, esp. with the thin tail.

def get rid of the rock. The UTH is much better. They don't need the day light.
also I don't think your temps are high enough.

Can you post pics?

they were sorely neglected before you got them from the sounds of it..

I removed the cap of sand just now. They both have been going poo for the last few days so I didn't think that they could have been impacted. I will get some pictures up tomorrow. I just can't believe how well they act when they havent eaten in so long.

What is the best temp for the "warm side"? How hot is to hot? I can control the heat pretty well by adjusting the light up and down. I have the 20 L tank built right into a book shelf so the light is clamped to the shelf above. I can adjust the shelf to where ever I need the light for the right temp.

warm side temps can be 85-95 or so...not any higher than 97. From what I have read opinions on this varies quite a bit. cool side should be about 5-10 less than your warm side (I think)

If they are pooing than they aren't likely impacted. BUT they don't need the sand. Not good for them.
