This little guy is absolutely adorable! It reminds me of an alien..cat...gecko :D I love the eyes, and the way they hold their tails. His tail looks a bit on the thin side, definitely not plump by any means. But otherwise healthy, and I just couldn't pass him up. I believe I shall name him Mongoose. I see more of these in my future.

Does anyone know of any good literature addressing pictus geckos? I've scoured the internet and this site for all the info I could find to read before I bought him (debated it for a good week actually), and I noticed everything seems to conflict, so I was hoping for a well-researched book that I could add to the mix I guess.

I left this one kind of large because I love how the eye came out! :)

AWESOME!
I want some of these guys, but know nothing about them.
Could you post pics of the enclosure?

Yup :) Just letting the camera charge a bit, I kinda went pic crazy a little bit ago...lol oops. Until then- I have him on paper towels bc I'm paranoid like that ;), with a half-log hide, and a water bowl for now. And some temp/humidity gauges...and an UTH :) Wow, that sounds so plain. Once he's out of quarantine I'll probably spruce everything up a bit, but for now I want to be able to monitor his poop. o_O I'm always really leery in terms of health when I buy animals from my work.

One more question I forgot! Should I add a bowl of calcium powder like I would with a leo, or should I just stick to dusting the food?

Oh btw to find more/better information on these guys they're more known as a madagascar ground gecko, so search that and you'll find more stuff!

very cool! i used to breed these guys. I miss them much. i kept mine in a dry forest setup. they require more humidity than a leopard gecko. pics of your setup would be cool

Here's a couple pictures of his enclosure. I exchanged the towels for some repti-carpet because...heh...I forgot to restock our supply of paper towels and we ran out. If I'm missing anything let me know. :)

I love my Pictus....His name is Bacardi :p but they are so funny to watch and their eyes are so expressive. Although he hides a lot...I think they are really easy to keep, and you don't need a huge cage/tank.

I completely agree. I am not sure why pictus are not kept by more people.

panthers are kept in waves. a few years, you see them everywhere, and after that, nobody seems to want them for a few years, and then they come back again.
1 of the problems is that the females are so prolific, and mostly die, to early, and lots of people end up with just males. and then the fun goes away.
this year i have had about 120 babies so far, and still hatching.

Hey, your set-up looks really good. My only advice is to make sure you have a UV lamp. My pictus had loads of health problems which all disappeared as soon as I bought one.

Yeah I was, it was strange because I know lots of people keep them fine without UV but I was giving mine the recomended amount of suppliment but it still had the symptoms of calcium deficiency :s
It's doing really well now with the light so I can only assume it's helping but it's all a bit of a mystery.
