paper towels and hiding crickets

Had to take our 2 year old to the vet for parasites recently, and the vet said that our repticarpet needs to be washed daily to keep it sanitary. She strongly recommended using paper towels instead. But how do you keep the darn crickets from hiding under it?!! I tried folding it to fit better, or I guess I could cut it. There has to be an easier way! What do other folks do?

those or you that use tiles, are they the small tiles you can buy at the home supply store, like are used in bathrooms? If so, how do you keep the crickets from getting under them or in the cracks? Do you put paper towels over them?

You should use sand, 2 years old geckos have no problem with sand.
Best sand to use is Zoomed reptile sand, not the vita-sand. Sand looks great and very easy to clean.
Don't use tiles bought from home supply store, you should always and only use reptile product that made by serious manufacture, such as zoomed.

I'm using tile. For a 20L tank, 2 rows of 5 6x6 tiles will fit snuggly in the bottom. I don't put anything else in, and crickets cannot hide anywhere in my tank, except for the furniture. It is very easy to clean too. I have two sets of tiles, and when my leo uses one for the bathroom, I just swap it out and wash it.

Most hardware stores that sell tile will also cut it for you to whatever deminsions you need. I'm using a 20L, as well, and I picked up there 12X12 tiles. Two fit perfectly in the bottom of the tank, and the third one was cut to fit at the end. There are slight gaps between the tile and the glass walls, but even the smallest of crickets hasn't managed to get into them. The only trouble I've seen is that some of the small mealworms can hide down there. I usually just pop the tile out and retrieve the sneaky little worms.

I have heard of other people rolling up paper towels and putting them in the gaps. I also know of a member that used modeling clay in the cracks, but I believe that caused a bit of a mess when it came time to remove the tiles to clean.

I'll throw in a pic of my tile... even though I'm sure some are getting sick of seeing it :main_laugh:

zzz888: You certainly are making your way around the forums with your misguided sand debate. :main_no:
