Paralytic Gecko

I went off to a vacation for just a week and left about 50 mw per gecko on their enclosures. Upon returning though, I noticed my juvy Raptor to be dragging herself by using the forearms while the hind legs were like twitching. She was 100% well a week ago. My friend (breeder) said it was unlikely to be a MDB symptom. I dont know what happened and I dont know how to cope up with this kind of situation since I am still new in the hobby.

Can anyone help?:) I would really appreciate it guys.

Thanks in advance.

It would be useful to find out why your friend thinks MBD is unlikely. Marcia of Golden Gate Geckos had an experience with sudden onset MBD symptoms because of overheating and resulting calcium crashing. I don't know if that's a possibliity. Other than that, I don't think most of us are capable of diagnosing this and the gecko will need a vet visit.

Over the past 14 years, I have had 2 cases of geckos suddenly developing what seemed to be paralysis in the lower extremities. X-rays did not show any spinal damage, and there was no concrete diagnosis for the problem (not MBD). Both were males, and required hand-feeding. The symptoms did not reslove themselves, and the geckos needed abdominal palpation in order to defecate. After a long period of time, their condition deteriorated and I had to euthanize them.

My question is, was this little RAPTOR housed with another gecko? Is there a possibility it could have been injured?

Hi Marcia,

All my geckos are housed individually via a tub system. My tubs measurement is 15x12x7. I dont see any reason why she was injured besides that my companion fed the geckos once. I dont know if she accidentally dropped her (if she held her that is), or maybe dropped something on the gecko. She never admitted any.:) Im still hoping that she will recover from this because I care about them and their well being.

Im posting her image here. Her spine starting off the tail is kinda crooked.
