Paypal dispute

So i was getting some boxes ready and shipping labels printed on a Sunday night to ship out a gecko that next Monday evening after work. I get a pm around 11 from someone wanting to buy the cheapest gecko I had for sale 20 bucks. No problem 55 bucks shipped, if you get the cash to me tonight Ill ship it tomorrow with the others.
So the person sent the money, I made the label got their box ready and went to bed. The next morning i went to work, came home boxed up the geckos and made a bee line to UPS (I only have 20 mins after i leave work to make it)
The next day I got a pm saying the gecko had made it and she was safe. Then later that night I got a email from paypal saying the transfer was being disputed, due to unauthorized? SO i went and looked and it was partially my fault. I was in such a rush I didn't take time to get the persons age, when I looked at their profile they were only 15..doh that's MY fault.
BUT it still aggravates me that I sent a gecko..a pet one none the less, to someone for a very very fair price..and it seems they still wanted it for free. I pmed them here before deciding that's what happened and asked them nicely if there was an issue? They returned online but never sent a response so one can only assume.
This is just a long winded rant even though it is partially my fault, still aggravates the crap out of me that one of my little geckos that i raised from a baby went to a home of someone that would try to stiff me out of 55 dollars.

For the record I won the dispute today.

I am glad you won the dispute! How frustrating!!

Was it Paypal questioning due to money being transferred by a minor? Or a parent being mad about the transaction?Maybe it wasn't on purpose or the persons fault...maybe... I try to think the best of people 'till proven otherwise. I hope they respond, at least with an apology.

Dang Chris! That is a scary situation but I am glad you won the dispute. Hopefully the fraudster will be disallowed from using this Paypal Trick on someone else because of their blatant unethical behavior. I mean Paypal should ban them....

I guess the rest of us should learn from this, and take the time to verify payments before shipping. Thanks for sharing your example.

Wow, its sad that some people can do things like this to someone when they go out of their way to get a gecko rushed to their house the next day. Good thing you won the dispute.

I'm glad you won! It's a shame that people try to abuse PayPal. That's why we always ship to the confirmed address. We have people ask to buy geckos through a friend's account all the time and I have to say no. It confuses me when most of these people seem incredibly inconvenienced and irritated. PayPal is really good about protecting honest parties but you have to follow the rules. You just can't be too careful I guess.

Thanks for the replies everyone. At first I was really beating myself up about not being more careful of the buyers age!
The more I thought the madder I got really. Jenn thats why I originally sent the message to the person here. It said, Hey was there any issues with the gecko? Did you open a dispute on paypal?
I never got a responce so i just figured they did lol...
From now on Ill be much more careful!

If they intentionally tried to get a free animal.. What a tool!!!! Maybe it was just a misunderstanding... let's hope so!

All's well that ends well :D

Glad everything worked out for you Chris, that's a really crappy situation. My guess is mom saw this $75 charge on their account and flipped out. I know I would have, "you bought a what? A leopard? NO WAY! It'll eat your face!!!" :main_lipsrsealed:

^^^ Yeah, that was my thought too... Still, what a jerk for not at least responding --- no matter what the reason!! :main_no: Thankfully Paypal is reputable! Makes me feel better about using it myself (buying AND selling!!)
