Perlite brands

I've been curious lately which brands of Perlite people use for incubation. I used to get mine at a local garden store, but they quit carrying it. I wish I could remember the brand name, but it was something rather obscure. Anyway, lately I've tried Schultz and Scott's both, and am not satisfied with either one. The Schultz perlite has a heavy amount of really fine particles and dust which makes it very dense. Also, it has too much dark foreign matter mixed in which takes forever to pick out. The Scott's has good granule size and consistency, but so far all of the bags I've found are wet inside, which makes it hard to determine how much humidity is already in it. There is less foreign matter in the Scott's, but I've been finding gnats in it which are even harder to remove than the dark mystery chunks.

Any preferences or suggestions?

Mircle-Gro, Im not sure yet whether or not I like it. It does have some fine particles in it but not real bad. Seems to be ok so far.

I use sta-green right now. Haven't tried any others yet. It can be a bit dusty if you pour it out, so I just scoop it. Soon as I spray it down though it's fine. Haven't had any problems with it yet. We got it at either lowes/home depot??

I have used Uni Grow for a few years now and have not had to pick anything out of it.

Thanks everyone for the replies and suggestions. I went back to the greenhouse where I had been getting it to see if I could possibly special order it and they showed me the new brand they're carrying. It's called Farfard (comes in a shiny blue bag) and it's perfect--great granule consistency with no sand, nice and dry, and totally clean.

ROBIN I DON'T LIKE VERMICULITE!!!

...but I'll think about it. ;)

We have a local company that produces both the Vermiculite, and the Perlite that our HD's carry. Aside from being dusty it is the perfect granule size, and super clean!
