So does anyone use perlite for the crickets to lay eggs? I just bought some and I'm wondering how everyone else did with it.

I use a small container with top soil, and I remove the container from the cricket encloser once every two weeks. Never used perlite.

If you are talking the adult crickets laying their eggs in it.
No. That's not a wise choice.
The material perlite is a drainage material and your water will go to the bottom. You want a material that will stay damp where the adult will stick their egg tube into........Sphagnum Moss was a good choice for me.......there are others though.... take care .. HJ

I have never bred crickets intensionally but when I had my leos on sand (vita sand) some of the crickets would lay in that so occasionally I would have pin heads hoping around every were . I imagine play sand would work fine too just keep it slyly damp and warm. good luck.

I had a hide/lay box with moist vermiculite, and the crickets would always lay thier eggs in it.Every few weeks I would have hundreds of tiny crickets hopping around.I just switched out the container and let them grow.I would drop in some potato and oats/cornmeal and they do great.
