In a loose sense yes--all varieties of dogs are the same species. Both Presas and pits belong to the Molosser family of dogs. These originate from the Canary Islands and grow far larger than the average pit (up to about 140#). They are also of mastiff stock. Pits originate from terrier stock (I think in England) and 80# is a very well-built dog. These also cost far more than pits--making it unlikely for them to get into the hands of unsuitable owners.
Hehe very cute dogs! That breed seems to be more common here but you don't see it very often either. The first pic may be a bit deceptive and make them look like pits but if you write "presa canario" in google and see more pics of them from different angles you'll see that it looks more like a mastiff than a pit.
