My local PetStupid has actually gotten much better lately.
Of course, constant complaints from myself and others probably
had a little something to do with it.

Just goes to show, if your loud and obnoxious enough, people will
listen!

Eh, I work at one of these major pet retailers you all talk of. I will not mention which one. But, I have not seen at my store or any of the others in the area anything like this. They are all comfortably contained in each cage. They all get proper feeding (as made sure by me) along with all of the other animals. We have plenty of hides and make sure they are only on repti carpet. I would quit on the spot if I thought that my store was not taking the upmost care of any animals.
