I've decided to try my hand at planting my own terrarium. After giving the plants time to root and putting some fake ones in to fill it out, I put Petrie in last night, and he's been exploring ever since. I'm hoping that means he likes it.

I've got a tiny teacup orchid in the back (which I hope doesn't get destroyed), some wandering jew, and 3 other types of mystery plants that I took out of the frogs' terrarium.

Lovely work! :D I was thinking about hooking vines from the lid too, it's a good idea. ^u^
Oh and by the way I love his name. Petrie, as in Land Before Time right? xD Cute cute cute...

Yep, that's where his name came from. :p He was a skinny, sad-looking little rescue who thought he could fly (very jumpy), so it fit.

Thanks Jacob! This is actually for a crested gecko. It's kind of an experiment because my cresties are much heavier than my frogs and tend to destroy plants when they try to climb them, which is why I haven't tried planting their terrariums before now. I put in lots of sticks to climb and tried to brace the plants on them to protect them. It's been good so far.

Thanks everyone! I noticed some mold growing on the log hide last night  so I took that out. I've heard mold is pretty common in new terrariums, but it's still not something I'm thrilled about. I ordered a couple cultures of springtails, so hopefully they will get it under control.

Yeah, springtails are great, and you don't really see them unless you have a ton. I found like 20 in a water fountain at school, threw it in with some dirt and other random food, and they multiplied. There are much better ways to culture them though.

LOL! Well that's a creative way to get spring tails!

Not too efficient if you have something that eats them, or if you need lots though :p
I just did it as an experiment to play around with. There are some springtails in my backyard though, but I have to flood the dirt to catch them.
