I just ordered some Phoenix worms (AKA; soldier fly larvae) from Worm Man for my leos.
I have never even SEEN one before, but they are naturally LOADED with calcium! :)
The big question is, will they eat them?????

My little male, I have had him now 2 weeks, started out eating mealies, but he didnt like it much. Now, he will only lick the calcium dust off of them and walk away. My female does like mealies (for now, that can change any day!!).

Of course, they both LOVE waxies!!

So, I am hopeing they will both eat these Phoenix worms since they are so nutritious.

Does anyone feed these? Do your leos like them?

i have heard of them but not tried them yet i was thinking of ordering some from worm man also

I wonder how long it takes them to morph into flies??

I would hate to have soldier flies flying around in the house! :main_laugh:

Does anyone know if they easy to maintain?

My geckos wouldn't really eat them. Wax worms have decent enough calcium and you can add supplements.

I have been raising all my babies on this year on them, and I LOVE them! Only a few babies haven't taken to them, so they get crickets dusted with herptivite and calcium.

every single one of our leos spit out the phoenix worms i tried on them the other day. I've never seen a gecko spit before yesterday one even had the worm half way down and still managed to spit it back out. I think I wasted some money on those.

Hmmmmmm! that's certainly not encouraging!
Now I'm confused! :main_huh:
How can some leo's love them and others spit them out?
Maybe they where just bad worms?
Where did you get them (not Worm Man, I hope!!)??

Yes everyone of our seven spit them out our tangerine even rubbed her mouth on the repti carpet trying to get the taste off her lips. we bought them from a local reptile marine specialty store in west L.A. I don't suspect anything is wrong with the worms seem perfectly healthy for a maggot. On the plus side we discovered our tree frog loves them. I wonder if you start the gecko on them first maybe they wouldn't have a problem with them. Ours have been spoiled with variety (crickets mealies supers waxies and even pinkies). just a thought. good luck I hope some one has success with them. doubt we'll buy any more.

Out of curiosity, can you tell that there are worms are in the package from the outside of it when it is shipped. I live in a college dorm where they would not be to happy if I ordered these...

phoenix worms are super easy to keep you don't feed them or keep them in the fridge or anything. You keep them in the container they come in and i've had some for 2+ months and they never turned into flies. All my geckos tolerate them not sure if they really like them but they are all real big fans of food in general. lol
