Picky juvenile leo?

My new juvenile ("Chuey") will take wax worms if I feed them by hand, but I cannot get him to eat crickets. I haven't resorted to hand-feeding the crix, and really don't want to (I'm not the biggest cricket fan). Is he too small for meal worms (I don't know his age, as I "rescued" him from PetSmart)?

He isn't too small for mealworms. Too small for Super and King worms but not mealworms. You can try silk worms and small roaches also.

Yesterday he took three wax worms (all by hand). I'm going to get some meal worms and see how he does with those.

Aww, that is a beautiful baby you have there! You mentioned not wanting to feed crickets "by hand." I use tongs to feed my leos their crickets--that way I don't to have to actually touch them! Just thought I'd throw that out there in case mealies don't work out for you. Good luck--I hope he starts eating better soon!

I have a feeling you're right about their vision. He had a really hard time on Sunday "finding" the mealies that I was hand-feeding him. I'm going to try feeding when it's not as light (post-dusk), and start using feeding tongs (so he doesn't try to eat my finger).
