I have kept crickets over the years but never bred them at least not intentionally(had pineheads hatch out in an old leo enclosure)I have been working on a design for a cricket breeding setup.figure it will be more cost effective to breed them. goal is to keep them clean, warm, dry and well fed. Now this is only an Idea it is not tried and true. with this design most of the unwanted debris ie dead crickets sheds and feces should theoretically fall to the bottom. with some close monitoring hopefully I can schedule it so as to remove the lay box to a hatch container once the eggs are laid and replace with new lay container. I'm sure in time all the details and kinks will be worked out.

just noticed, lay container really doesn't have to bee that deep haha just a concept.

you could do a much simpler set up to breed crickets but I was trying to think what would keep the adults the healthiest, least smelly, easiest, simple to clean.

Dunno if this helps, but I keep 500-1000 at a time in a 20 gallon aquarium..oatmeal on the bottom, a dish of gut load on one end, and some apples or carrots tossed in for moisture. And there are egg cartons in there too. The tank has a screen lid which makes all the difference from when I used to keep them in a rubbermaid.
