I have read alot and talked to a few people and havent gotten much advice or information on feeding them to Leo's. From experience...How often,at what age/weight etc, etc. Thanks for the input.

Personally the only time I would feed pinkies to leos is for gravid females, otherwise then that its not really necessarry, they tend to be hard to digest and very fattening, if you want something to feed as a treat, I would reccomend wax worms. I see this question alot, not really sure the fascination with feeding pinkies to leos..

Thanks,

I was just trying to figure out if I should include these into their diet ocassionally or not. I treat them with wax worms about every three weeks or so. I'll just leave it at that.

I fed my female a pinky for the first time this week and she attacked it and enjoyed it. She had just layed the eggs on 16 june 2007 she was quite hungry!

I came across a nest of pinkies when cleaning a barn, once- figured why waste? Eclipse ate all 6 of them in less than a week... which in retrospect was a bit ridiculous and I don't recommend it. But, she was so ecstatic she just kept eating them when I offered. I don't think I've ever seen a fatter gecko after that, though.

Really I'd only feed pinkies if I were breeding them anyway and had leftovers (lke if I had snakes). The geckos really enjoy them as a snack, but they're hard to get and not breed them and end up overrun with mice.

The local store has pinkies once in awhile at a cost of $0.99, butterworms are 88. My female would take a pinkie ten times before a butter. I had to get crickets as she turned up a butter again.

Just because the leo will take it, doesent mean its best for them or should be fed. Very few leos will turn down wax worms but that doesent mean they should be fed all the time..

Jason,
What makes you think they are hard for the gecko to digest? They are like any other reptile...opotunistic feeders. You can bet that if a gecko came across a nest of pinkies in the wild they would eat them right up. All during breeding season I feed ALL my females pinkies. One, I have them on hand as I raise my own mice.(I have snakes also) I have seen no ill effects on any of them. I havent seen them regurge or anything.Do i recommend feeding them all the time? No, just as I wouldnt feed them waxworms all the time. But I have to think that them digesting pinkies would not be that much different that them digesting the exoskeleton of a mealworm but thats just my thoughts.

I feed pinkies during laying season if I notice to much weight loss. You can load the pinky with calcium and vitamins should you need to.

Exactly, their is nothing wrong with feeding them in certain cases but I see to many people want to feed them often and thats not good.

Just imagine how healthy we would be if we cared as much about our own diets.
