About once a month or so, I feed my geckos a pinkie (I get the smallest ones I can find). I don't have a snake though, so I was wondering....what do you guys do if the gecko doesn't eat it?
I can tell you this much, the only geckos that you should feed pinkies to is gravid or females laying eggs. Males don't really need extra nutrition with pinkies even in the breeding season. Crickets, mealies, and calcium/D3 is all thats needed for males. Don't know if that what you are doing but just wanted to put this in. Don't take me wrong just given advice.
If the geckos don't eat it and you don't have a snake, well then chuck it in the trash. Thats my opinion because geckos like things to move and if its doesn't get ate then it will die soon without the mothers milk.
Rodents are high in fat, which can cause to fatty liver. I am not against feeding pinkies to lizards, it just needs to be in moderation and only when they need to gain weight.
well if the pinky is not dead yet, i would suggest that you crush his head or something else to kill him QUICKLY then toss him if you are absolutely sure that he wont be eaten by your leo
Glad I found this.
My husband said he fed pinkies in the past, and the geckos gobbled them up.
He said it's not real fun to watch, but it's interesting.
Anyway, that's not the point.
Since our geckos need to put a little weight on, I'm thinking these would be good...once in a GREAT while.
I only use frozen/thawed and throw them out if they won't eat it. I just started using them for laying/breeding females this season. They get one or two only.
