ookay, so i bought some wax worms from ******** for my leos for the first time...and the lady that gave them to me said that a lot of the shipment they get in arrive dead but there were still some containers with live ones.

so i opened the container to look and there were only a few black ones, and none of the worms were moving but i thought that was just because they just came out of the fridge and i heard that had to warm up to be active first.

well, i got home and they still weren't moving, but were plump and looked the right color..so i put some on tweezers and moved them around by my gecko's faces and they ate them right up.

but i just watched some videos on youtube, and apparently mine are all dead.

so my question is...will my geckos be hurt from eating dead wax worms? and can i return them to ********, or will they just turn me down???

They refrigerate theirs and I've read you don't need to. That could be it.

refrigerated wax worms take a little while to wake up. if they're plump and white chances are they're still alive.

i always open containers and check them before giving them to customers, there always seems to be at least one container that's mostly dead.

They actually should be refrigerated because they will not live long at room temp. They turn black, and die.
Most commercial breeders treat the waxies so they will not turn into moths, which destroy honey crops.
As a consequence, instead of pupating, they just die.

Refrigeration at temps lower than 40F will kill them though.
They need to be kept 48 to 55F.
You can put them in the door of your frig, it doesn't get so cold there.

okay so i put a few in their bowl last night, and they still aren't moving and it's been hours and hours. i'm assuming they're dead.

i'm going to try and return them. hopefully i can.

I kept some in a fridge but when I went to get them they had all perished. Thankfully there was only a few left. I figured it might have been too cold for them in there....

Most people's refrigerators are too cold for waxies. Too cold and they die. Try keeping them on the door of the fridge and not on the shelf. It tends to be warmer on the door than inside. They need to be around 42 F and I know for a fact my fridge is around 37 F so if you live somewhere cold keep them in the garage or back porch.
