You just gotta love them! Turns out Q-tip has allergies. To what? We are still trying to find out. She does get fungal infections which we have to bathe with a special shampoo. We have her on a grain free diet and also add apple cider vinegar to her food once a day. We are now in the process of adding raw honey to her food to help with mold allergies and include a probiotic in her diet. She is still too young for allergy testing since she is not even 2!! I avoid steroids unless absolutely necessary and she is so pu/pd on it(drinks and urinates a ton), even on a low dose. Does anyone else have skin problems with their pits and how do they treat them? I did try the hypo allergenic diets but it still didn't work for her allergies, it's not food related. Thanks for your input.

I haven't had any food allergies or allergies in general with MIA. Are you sure it's not food related? Sometimes even the hypo-allergenic foods have something in them that can cause an allergy.
An article I wrote about food allergies, not sure if it'll help... Common Dog Food Allergies

Did you keep the dog on the different foods for a good minute before changing again? It can take up to like 6 weeks to get the old toxins out.

Other than that I'm not sure what it could be... Just be glad that it's allergies and nothing worse... I would also figure that any allergies, not just those that Pit Bulls may have, would be treated the same as any other dog, so I'm not sure you should specify just people with Pit Bulls with allergies to give advice...

I have a dog that is VERY allergic to Fleas. if she gets Bite one time.. she goes Bald on her rear. From chewing.

And being a foster mom to Pitties.. I see a Lot of them have skin Issues. But, with some Benedryl, And Fish oil.. and a Steady GOOD Diet.. they tend to do very well.

All foods tried she has been on for 5 months minimum. So food is not the problem. I do see a cyclical pattern to it but still haven't figured out to what. Fleas are not a problem because I do not allow them in my house(I have a serious disdain for them and all animals are checked on a weekly basis, I work with animals and worry about bringing them home.) My fiancee teases me that I don't allow them to get dusty because I'm constantly checking them. The only reason I said pits and allergies is because my girl is a pit and she has allergies. I was not pin pointing any breed in general.
right now she is on bendaryl, apple cider vinegar, raw honey and a grain-free diet. I just want to see if there are other things that have worked for people

I feed my pit mix ground flaxseed with his soft food that tops his dry mix to keep his coat soft in the cold weather.

i have 15 pits and several of them have skin problems but the main problem with dogs that stay in side most of the time is dry skin , then they chew their skin which cause open wounds and hair lose , it's the dry air in the house that cause the dry skin , most of my dogs stay outside in kennels , but when i only had a few ,they would stay inside and they would get dry skin a lot but my vet said to feed them a diet high in potatoes ! it sounded weird to me but it works !! i would boil them up and mix it with their dry food . but dogs are just like humans they have allergies too , but just like humans allergies come a nd go . when i was a kid i was allergic to bees and peanut butter but not any more!! i would like to know what is going on with your dog so keep us posted good luck DOGS RULE
