A few months ago I bred my 10 month old 60 gram SHCT female because she was ovulating and not eating. She started eating as soon as she was bred (to a redstripe x Tr. albino male about the same age that I got from JMG) and laid 3 eggs. Since then she's continued to grow well and gain weight. I was expecting the egg to hatch last week at 8 weeks but it dented and began to collapse, so I figured the egg was infertile and had given up on it and stopped checking it by Sunday. Imagine my surprise this evening when I went to check . . . I didn't take a picture yet because it just looks like a regular hatchling right now. I expect some nice changes in the next few weeks and will post a picture then.

awesome! sounds like my first eggs. had 4 from 2 different females that i put inthe incubator, and a month later thought they were infertile. i left them in there anyways, and went away on vacation for another 4 weeks. my surprise when i came home to find 3 babies running around in the incubator!

Update

The other 2 eggs hatched at the beginning of November. All 3 are banded with nice (but not dazzling) orange color, growing like weeds and one looks like it will be carrot tail. All should be either hypo or super hypo. I sold the oldest one over the weekend and the other 2 are promised to someone else. Only 8 more geckos to sell . . .

I sold all 3 babies this month but I took pictures before the last 2 went. They're still in the camera and I'll post them when I transfer them to the computer.

At what point in the year do they start ovulating? Because mine has stoped eating and it is a female but is conpletely healthy.

The one I bred because she was ovulating started in late August at the age of 10 months and approximately 60 grams. It was right around the time the other females in the room stopped. None of mine seem to be ovulating yet. I generally put the males and femles together mid-Jan. and hope for the first eggs within a month.

Here's a picture of the last and best of the 3 babies that the young female produced last season.

Females actually ovulate every 2 weeks if they are fat and healthy. You can technically breed leos at any point in time throughout the year although many often stick to the Feb-Sep (give or take a few months) season.

Congrats on your hatchlings, the first ones are always impossible to forget.
