Hey..this looks totally awesome! :)

I really want my gecko to feel "at home" (int he desert) but I only had pet smart items to choose from lol. I really think you should get into customizing and selling them lol. I wish I could make soemthing like this but I'm always nervous about which materials are okay to use (ex. paint, glue, etc) so I just stick to pet smart junk :(

Thanks a lot everyone! I'm glad you guys like it. Yeah definitely try it with your son! Including all the time it took me to get the supplies and work on it and let it dry, it took about 1 week, but it was in the summer when I was out of school, so I had all day every day. I left three or four days between when I painted it and when it was put in the gecko enclosure.

After I glued the foam together I just let it dry over night and it was fine.

^ About half of the rocks in my enclosure are from streams. What I do is just wash them with a light soap and water and make sure they aren't dirty or generally gross looking.

Looks great! My tank came with a built in background and hiding. I wonder how you keep the cave clean from the inside. Or do you assume that they keep a tidy household themselves :)

I love what you have done. I have tried some of my own things as well but was using the normal white styrofoam. Very messy to work with, is the insulation foam also so messy when cutting and sanding.

This looks great. Its so good to DIY for your pets and its genrally cheaper and whats left over can be reused like paint etc. I wana do something like that for my gecko :D

Wow thanks for all the replies everyone, I haven't been back to this forum for a long time and I came back to find my thread at the top of the list! As to answer some questions...it's not glued to the back so you can lift it up and clean under it and the inside of it. So far my gecko really likes it, it hasn't had any problems yet and she's had it for a good 5 months.

I'm working on one for my corn snake, but it's far from finished since going off to college has put me at a loss for extra money for these projects.

This has inspired me and my mother. Because of this, we have come up with many ideas. Can't wait to start our plans.

AMAZING!

Styrofoam is SUPER messy and hard to work with in my opinion, but I want to try this! :) What type of cutting tools did you use on this so that you could get a clean cut and be able to shape it without too big of chunks tearing off and ruining your design? I feel like if I cut Styrofoam, it wouldn't cut in a straight line, but be tearing and chunking off instead... Also, what grain of sandpaper did you use to smooth things over with?
