I have 2 year old leo that has a lot of poop stuck to his vent. It is rock hard and I soak him a lot but it won't soften and come off. I am afraid to pull it and hurt him..

Any ideas?

thanks

Are you sure its poop and not a prolapse? You said it was a "him" right?? There's no reason why, if it is poop, it shouldn't come off with a 30 minute soaking.. Can you post some pics of it?

Think you will find out this is most
likely the problem.
Probably shed layers over a prolapse.
I've been there.
Take care. HJ

I see what you mean about it looking like poop. Poor guy :( I've never seen a prolapse that looked like that but someone else may have. If it is a prolapse, the dead skin has to come off without further injury. I don't know if it can be done non-surgically. My own prolapse experience is very limited but others here can tell you more. I would still give him a couple warm soaks for 30 min daily at least to ease discomfort until this matter can be resolved. He likely will need to see a qualified herp vet. I see you are in FL- if you can get to the Tampa Repticon this weekend, Dr. Alfonso will be at the show and can take a look at him.

I would get him to a vet as soon as possible. That looks like a bad prolapse with possibly some infection due to the amount of swelling.. Best bet is to get him to a herp vet ASAP...

that looks pretty bad. if those are his hemipenes they will need to be removed. the animal definitely needs veternary care.

good luck.

btw, a prolapse is when a structure that is usually inside an animal ends up on the outside, e.g. hemipenes or cloaca

Its been like that for months or more. I thought it was just poop and would eventually fall off. He is very healthy, eating well and weighs 80 grams.

I am going to soak him a bunch for the next few days and if it doesn't get any better, I will take him to the vet.

thanks for all your help

Well the swelling in the testicles is a good indication of an infection. So soaking him for any period of time is just a waist of you're and his time..Please make a vet appointment A.S.A.P....poor little guy!! If you had this problem and your testicles swelled up like oranges,I bet the last thing you would think of was soaking in the tub

Some vets are open on Saturdays. Be sure you get a reptile vet, dog and cat vets won't do anything but send you away with a bag of stuff you may or may not need, and a huge bill. Ask for referrals in your area. Or call Dr. Alfonso in Orlando at Kirkman Area Vet Clinic.
