This male was a little darker than usual when he hatched but I dint think it was un usual. Until he started to get darker after every shed. Now he is almost a year old and is getting even more black pigment to him.

I put a shtctb that hatched out from the same breeding group as the dark one for comparison of the two geckos pigmentation.

What do guys think in relation to genetics and future breeding.

Thanks for taking a look. Aaron Jones

Very nice Aaron.

I hatched a similar female in '06 and she kept that dark color till aduldhood.
I never bred her though and now I have to sell her :(

I wouldn’t call him melanistic, he looks more brown than black to me. However if you like this look, it should be possible to produce more with it. I would take this male and breed him back to his mother, then breed him back to his offspring from that pairing. And do that for a while, just make sure to outcross every 5 generations, so you maintain a healthy breeding stock.

He's very neat looking. You could prob produce some nice dark tangs with him instead of bright ones. If it were me I'd work to see if I could keep the darkness-maybe cross with one of those dark snows (the ones that have no white and look brown/black), or with an intense (but on the darker spectrum not bright) red/orange tang to see if I could make a deep dark reddish leo. Was he temped different than the others? What does mom & dad look like?

Looks like the Leos the TUG are producing. Go take a look at their breeder stock. They have some very dark breeders as well.

Good luck on the project.
