Possible Giant?

I don't know. Back in the late nineties I had one female that was at least that big at that age. She was about 8 inches and weighed 80 grams in adulthood. At that time I knew nothing about giant leo's yet of course.

On a side note, I have one male leo now that is just hitting a year old. He is close to 11 inches and weighs 113 grams.

Thats cool. I didn't purchase her as a giant. I am just seeing alot of online purchasing breeders say that a female has to reach 60g in the first year to be considered a gaint. I am actually looking into purchasing a snow/super snow giant/super giant to breed with my normal snow.

Lisa I don't know if the breeder of this gecko was carrying the giant gene. But I am pretty sure that it might be a very noticeable one if it is there. I mean I am not hoping for it to be a gaint or not be a giant just curious if anyone knew the standards for the consideration.

My big 11 inch, 113 gram male that is just turning a year old is originally from a big chain pet store. So I don't know his genetics either. I actually don't even know his exact hatch date. Only that he is a tremper albino that was hatched in the first half of 2012. Is he a Giant, a Super Giant, or just an abnormally large leopard gecko? I have no idea.

That large I would say there is a giant gene there. I mean I know the gene logic. superXsuper you get supers, giantXgiant you can get supers, giants, and even normals. So to say the gene is there in the parents especially with just the giants doesn't mean it gets passed down. So unless you have the genes actually tested, which I think would be very expensive if even possible would be very difficult even for the popular breeders with impeccable breeding lines. I think the giant gene is just one of those visibly confirmed sorta things but I may be wrong with my logic.

Well, I wish I did know his genetics. His very large size and young age is making me feel like I'm doing something wrong. If I knew he came from Giant or Super Giant genes I wouldn't feel that way! Back in the 90's when I was breeding leopard geckos I never had one this large.

I would have to say if he was a 8 in Gecko then he was way over weight and would probably roll everywhere lol. But at 11 in and that weight I would say you are doing fine and just have a nice large gecko on your hands. Post a picture if you want I would like to see him!

I weighed him yesterday a few hours after he ate. Then he pooped last night. I took him out to take pics for you and he is only 112 grams after pooping...lol.

I was also trying to measure length for you but he wouldn't sit still.

Yes, all I can assume is that he's just a big gecko. I can't call him a Giant since I don't know his genetics.

Yea to be considered giant, it would have to be from giant line so it's just a big gecko. But the funny part I have a giant tremper and he is only like 10 inches and around 77 grams but his head is massive and tail is super long. But either way that is a monster

Yes, supposedly there is something in how they are built? I don't know what is meant by that, so I can't compare Bert to a giant.

No it's more of a line that was made original by Ron Tremper so people consider it a morph so any other gecko is just a big gecko and it dosen't carry the gene to produce other big geckos. But I am not so sure about this. To me just like tall people tend to have tall children I would think it's the same in leo's but my knowledge of genetics is only basic.

Oh, I know all that. I'm saying I've heard people say geckos from the giant lines have the longer tails, etc. I don't how true that is since I've never seen a giant in person. My gecko is the biggest gecko I've ever seen. I was into geckos and gecko breeding back in the 90's. There were no giants then!
