She could very well be getting ready to lay. It's been three weeks and 5 days, so i'd say it's about time! Be on the lookout for digging, and she's going to stop eating right before she lays as well. It should be any time now. Remember to supplement her calcium well! Good luck!
So I have always wondered how do you really get them to eat the calcuim when they are gravid? Do you just make sure it is available to them or just make sure everything you feed is dusted? Thanks
For my females that don't eat dusted insects, I make a paste with some calcium and a few drops of water, and every day I rub a good amount near the mouth...most of the time they always eat it. I find that this helps my gravid females produce eggs with good egg shells. I also leave calcium in the cage at all times, and I dust insects as well.
Malik: It's funny you asked me about this pre-lay shed, because I have a female who's about to lay very soon and she started shedding this morning. She's never done that before while she's gravid, lol.
Well, I live in Florida, and the temps usually don't get TOO low here. We have had a cold front for a couple weeks, but my enigma started ovulating in late December. I bred her around the 23rd of December, same as Malik, but I also left her with my male for a couple weeks so it could have been any time after that. Regardless, she's ready to pop. She's a year and a half and i'm trying to prove one of her hets out this year, so I was exited to breed her with my raptor. I don't see why you shouldn't breed them if it's cold outside, as long as the temps inside their enclosures are correct.
JordanAng420: Right on. Thanks for the great reply. BTW what one of the hets are your trying to prove out? Raptor Het?
