I agree that some prices are high... But dont take a morph that is averaging $400-$500 and undercut it to $50-$100.

I agree, there are many people out there who rely on breeding reptiles as their main income. Slashing prices drastically so more people can afford high end morphs will only upset those who put their time and efforts to first produce these "high priced" animals. I completely agree with lowering your prices a little below others to make a quicker sale and to gain a little edge.

The first couple of shows I ever went to I ran into a guy selling boas that sold his morphs for far less than they were worth for the whole show. I thought it was cool because I was new to the hobby and could get cool snakes at normal price. Now I see the other side and why none of the other vendors like him. He is also having the same problem with selling his snakes, he can't because of the reputation he got from other breeders.

I'm not trying to be a downer, I just think prices should stay around where the market value is. NOVA's and DREAMSICLE's will only drop in value as they become more popular and other combos start hatching out. I should produce some next year.

Neill and Dng123 have it completely right. DO NOT sell your geckos for rock bottom prices. You are only hurting others in the trade and making a bad name for yourself. This practice also confusing others that aren't that knowledgeable in the hobby. For example if someone comes to my site where I have a NOVA priced at $1500, which is reasonable, and you have one priced for $100, the person won't know why the difference and in fact they might think that you don't have a NOVA at all and because it is so under priced. Plus it gives the impression you don't know what your doing and why would anyone want to buy a gecko from someone that doesn't know what they are doing. Help the Gecko Hobby, don't hurt it.

Please take note, it is very important that you keep your words in check when talking about pricing and what is fair. When you start talking about creating a "Standard Pricing" for morphs you are walking the line of price fixing which is highly illegal.

There is no problem with asking someone if they feel a price is fair or too high/low. Let's keep this topic away from trying to "set" a standard with regard to pricing.

I agree with Felicia...and would you really want someone else telling you what you had to price your geckos at? The "standard" is really set naturally by supply and demand. I do find it a little funny that you would be upset that someone would not go down on their price. Sounds like he was confident about what his geckos are worth, and if that doesn't work for your cousin, there are other breeders, or other morphs with lower price tags. Of course, there is never any harm in asking.

I don't mean set a legal standard I hate it when people make laws for things that aren't understood (which is most lawmakers), more of a silent code. At least some sort of rating system, for example, kept in the hobby.

I understand what your saying, and I've heard it mentioned before. If you check the prices of reputable breeders, you will find pretty even prices. There will always be those that overprice and even more so, those who under price.
