i have 4 rats and 3 of them have had an ongoing problem with a uri for the past year, maybe even longer. ive had them at the vets several times, they have been given medication and then they get better for a little bit, but then it comes back.

they now have a uri again, and i think all of them have lost weight. well except dylan (he needs to go on a diet) but this is what they weigh

Bailey:362 grams
Beezley: 402 grams
Gizmo: 470 grams
Dylan: 690 grams

im just wondering if those 3 are going to have problems with uris for the rest of their lives, they are about 1.5 years old. ive got an appointment with the vets on thursday

Rats are VERY prone for upper resp disease. Once they get it, its more likey to reoccure.
You can treat them with antibiotics each time, its a pain in the butt.

I agree. I have one from a rescue that was treated for it, but still sneezes a lot (luckily not wet sneezes/congestion). I think she may always be that way. Once in awhile it's allergies and you can use children's benadryl. You can also try a drop of liquid echinacea.
