Prolapse and vet question..

I noticed the other day that my 2 year old male gecko has a prolapse. After doing all the research I can I had a plan of action. Well, unfortunately we are currently in the middle of a snowstorm so I have no been able to leave to get sugar for a soak, preparation h, k-y, NOTHING. I have been keeping the thing as moist as I can and keeping a very close eye on him.

As I have not been able to give him any extra care besides clean moisture and water constantly throughout the day, I'm assuming my best bet is to get him straight to a vet as soon as this storm passes. I am aware a vet is costly but I cannot seem to find any estimate prices to go from. I live in Virginia (if that makes any difference) but if anyone can give me a heads up on the price, I'd greatly appreciate it. I am working out a payment plan to my parents so the sooner I can find out a number the better.

Also, if anyone has any other advice on what I could possibly do for him I will be more than grateful!!

i can't help you on the cost of things however just keep his enclosure clean and keep him misted down (if he is not on paper towels put him on them). you want to keep the tissue as moist as you can without him sitting in water. you do not want to let the tissue dry out. if you have some Vaseline you might want to try that, just to protect it. ok so you dont have sugar, preparation-h or KY but do you have some kayro syrup? shoot even the amount of sugar in like maple syrup might work if need be in a pinch.

Believe it or not we have no maple syrup, karo, vaseline, nothing. I live in an apartment at school and we are not stocked with a whole bunch of stuff that the average household has. Luckily we have an unnecessarily large amount of paper towels so he at least has that.. I am crossing my fingers that the roads are decent tomorrow so I can run out and get him what he needs!

so after home care proving to be useless for my gecko i decided to euthanize since it was the only option i could afford that was in the best interest of my gecko... turns out it was a hemipenis prolapse so for just about the same cost he just had it removed and is now alive, well, and happy! what a great surprise that was!!!!!!! :)

most prolapses on males are hemipenal prolapses which happen somewhat often. glad you did not euthanize him. i am glad he is okay :)
