Well after 13 days of soaks, damp paper towel changes daily and preperation H... The retired star of my SS raptor project has retracted. I will let him enjoy his extended vacation and may let him see a female companion in june/july?

He need to build up his wieght again for not eating for 2 weeks due to the stressful situation he endured.

I am just happy that , though my vets refused to help, the guidance of Marcia and Steve Sykes got my little buddy through this intact ;)

Yes I was scared, but the scary part was how evil my local "reptile " vet is. They told me after 7 days it needs to be surgically removed and it's cheaper to put him down(over the phone). They lost my business and my dog will have a new vet too.

I kept it clean, sterile and moist , so I'd say that is why he had a fighting chance.

Thanks Marcia from Me and my little buddy:main_thumbsup:

Yup! The reason was that he will slowly die if not taken care of and the surgery is more expensive that the cost of replacement.

I laughed at that comment and told them the cost of replacement and told them how disapointed with that attitude I was as I hung up.

I get the impression they are more interested in doing $120 yearly shots and checkup and the emergency high dollar surgeries like twisted stomach for instance.

I want a vet that love animals, not his money ;)

Good to hear everything turned out ok. It sucks that there are vets out there with that attitude. I am lucky to have a great vet two blocks away who happens to be a Herp vet also. Just recently I had an issue with one of my dogs where they did their best to not have to operate and save us money and him the stress of surgery. In the end He had to have the surgery but they did everything to avoid it.

paul, I believe there's a decent herp vet near you.

Check out ChondroCoalition.com. I believe he's listed in there or you can ask Greg Maxwell at finegtps.com for recommended vets.

Not sure what Marcia or Steve told ya, but to add to any knowledge obtained you might want to check out articles/books on green tree pythons and prolapse (usually intestinal and not hemipene(s)). I'd like to assume pre-vet treatment would be similar and helpful for geckos.

And on the brighter side, at least you don't have a psycho gecko that purposely prolapsed both hemipenes and bit them off. I noticed the 1st one and watched the second one happen from a distance and before I could do anything. So much for breeding him.

losing a breeder is one thing, losing a pet is another ;)

He's still damb sexy, but now the ladies need to admire him from afar for awhile.

Great news!!!

Hey Paul,

That's great news! I posted my whole experience with this same topic last June. After seven months, my Sunglow male that had a hemipene prolapse is now back with the ladies again and doing fine!
