Prolapse

Hello all,

I have a 5 year old leopard gecko who apparently has a prolapse. Not sure why, he has bred in the past but not for a couple years. He has had some leftover shed (more around pre anal pores area) but I was "working" on that a bit to help ease it off...maybe he was stressed, I really don't know... Warm water soak, then q-tips and shed-ease spray is what I do for stuck sheds. But anyway, I soaked him in sugar water the other day for the prolapse and yesterday he looked better so will soak again today. Also cleaned the cage out and put down fresh paper towels; switched the moist hide from bed-a-beast type stuff to moist paper towels just to avoid possible cause of irritation. But wondering if he is supposed to be fed as usual? I don't know if the prolapse is from internal problems like intestinal... How soon should it be back to normal? Is it likely to be a returning issue, i.e. if not caused from breeding?

He is normal and healthy looking otherwise, has a decent store of fat to his tail. Never had any health problems with him, cept for occasional stuck sheds etc.

Thanks,

Emilee

If he's still prolapsed after all the good stuff you've done, then he needs to go to the vet. Otherwise, I think you could feed him and keep an eye on him to make sure everything stays where it's supposed to be.

Ok, well I did the sugar water soak again this evening, and its only his second one. But how long normally does it take for prolapse to clear?

I offered some mealworms but he wasn't interested so far. Is it ok for him to eat during the prolapse?

I really think that if it hasn't cleared up after a soak and doesn't look any different (or if it's looking scabbed or black) it really needs to see the vet.
