Hey, Im new to the whole gecko thing, but I am getting a Leopard Gecko in the next 2-4 days. I have done soo much research, notes, planning and stuff like that. The only thing I am unsure about is the Heating/Lighting.
I am aware that the hot side should range at about 80-85/90 correct? And the cool side should be around 5-10 Degrees F cooler. The thing is, I am getting everything from a guy who recently had a gecko but it passed and hes trying to get rid of the tank and equipment. he said the light comes with it and something like a 20 gallon tank. I am looking forward to getting a Under Tank Heater (UTH) or whatever, but how long should I leave the heater on, or should I get a dimmer/timer for it? Will the dome light also be necesarry?:main_huh: Or will the UTH be ok on its own.

Thanks so much,
Luke.:main_thumbsup:

Firstly, I will disninfect the tank REALLY REALLY well before putting your new gecko in it; because you don't know if the seller's gecko died from infectuous disease or not.

With heating, you should get an UTH, a thermostat /or dimmer. The floor temperature on the warm side should be 92-95F; and 75-85F for the cool side. You don't really need a light; but you can put an infrared bulb in it for night viewing.

Thanks, definately will do. Can you purchase a dimmer at a local hardware/home depot store? Is the infrared invisible to the gecko as I have heard? If so, I will just take the dome light and put the infa. bulb in it.

Thanks!
Luke.

Go to a home depot and get a "lamp dimmer". It will cost about $12.
