Hello all. So today I was at a reptile show local to my area, and I'm going to leave out specific details. I found a very nice vendor at the show with a few different types of lizards and small critters. They seemed well established and very informative. So, I purchased a baby veiled chameleon for $50, and he was put on a wet paper towel in a regular clear cup like most critters go home in.
My mom was with me at the time of purchase (i am 19). She and I both inspected the lizards and all of them appeared very healthy and very clean. So, we got the little guy and my mom named him Rango as I am a Johnny Depp fan- LOL. Well, the convention center that this was being held at was about 30 miles from my house- about a 45 minute drive. I purchased this little guy at 2:30pm, and we were on the road back home by 3 after we grabbed supplies for him and made our way back to the car.
About 20 minutes into the trip, he suddenly started freaking out in the cup. I was driving so my mom was in charge of holding him on her lap to keep him safe. She looked down and he hit his head on the side of the cup and then was open mouth breathing. I was driving on a major highway and became a tad bit hysterical and by the time I could pull over, he had fell onto his side, pooped and suddenly died.
It is now 4pm EST, and I called the number on the business card 3 times and left 2 messages, and am waiting to hear back. I know it was busy so that's why I'm not totally freaking out yet, but the only reason that I couldn't turn around to go right back to the show was the opposite lane of traffic to where we had to go was completely backed up for MILES and MILES and the show is nearly over, so by the time we had found a way to turn around and go back we probably would have not made it back to the convention center in time (and also would have had to pay the tolls again as well as an entrance fee AGAIN).
I've never had really any of my pets just.. suddenly die.. I always try my best to take care of them all, and I bought all the appropriate equipment. What am I supposed to do? They are an LLC business. I paid with my PNC debit card, if nothing else can I stop payment to them or something if they won't work with me? $50 isn't an extreme amount of money, but that's beside the point. I don't just buy reptiles to just stick them in a cage and never look at them again, I do honestly care for them quite alot and I was crying on the way home. Wouldn't it be fair that since they are a semi-local business, for them to make arraignments to meet me nearby to do an exchange?
