New owner so forgive the question but Im feeding my gecko crickets. I placed 5 in his tank and he tried to get one but missed. 3 times. It then ran under a log hide which has a ball of moss behind it. All the crickets went under the moss. Will they come out? Will he look under there eventually? I dont want him to starve and I dont want the crickets to come out in the morning when hes sleeping and nibble him. (will they do that?) :main_huh::p

You can pull out the cricket's jump legs and also cut short their antenna, that'll make catching easier. You can also put the crickets (without jump legs) in a dish that's about 1 inch tall, they can't get out.

For some of my geckos that aren't good hunters I take the furniture out of the cage when I feed the crickets so they can't hide.

they will come out to get water, they'll just end up in your water bowl. i agree with aliza though, either move the decorations around in a fashion where they can't get under them, or remove them during feeding time.

I think your worrying a bit too much, you posted before you had just gotten your gecko. Give your gecko some time to adjust before you try feeding. Then toss in the crickets. If you think they are hiding then remove some cage furniture. Your gecko will find them.

Sometimes when i feed roaches and crickets to my geckos, they hide under the newspaper, i check back in a day or two and all of the roaches or crickets are gone.

Your gecko will find them when hungry...

Just relax and let him settle in. And remember, reptiles dont need to eat like a dog or cat. He/She will come around..

have you tried hand feeding them? I dred feeding crickets for the soul fact that they can get out of the cages@.@ so i hand feed all my geckos thier crickets and roachs. they can hunt the mealies or supers but not something that can escape. Doesnt effect there hunting skills and it insure you how many they've eaten.

I ended up taking out the furniture in his cage and turned it into a pit of cricket death. He perked up and ate 4. I got a couple to get closer to him and he swiped them so hes good now.
Im gonna try to give him some meal worms (thats best right?) because crickets are annoying!! I somehow had some freakin crickets escape my cricket prison and now when I walk around my house I see on here or there. I hope they die of starvation cause Id hate to have them live here and breed in my apt. Not sure how they escaped but could have been the hole by the handle on the lid. DOH!!!

When i feed my 2 leos i just drop in about 8 and let them hunt. They have a meal worm dish stocked all the time but only get crickets at night when they are awake. My fat tail on the other hand is a bit more work. I take out her 2 hides leaving her water, calcium, and meal worm dish. I drop the crickets in 1 at a time and make sure she eats them (she dropped her tail not long ago i wanna make sure she eats). But once she is done or if she has 1 or 2 in that she doesnt go for i put everything back and leave the 2 crickets in for the night. They are always gone in the morning.

I did the same, left 2 in over night. Seem to be gone. That moss seemed to allow them to hide deep inside and live another day.

I have a special aquarium that I covered the floor of it in white duct tape. The only purpose of the tank is for feeding. A bunch of crickets go in (sometimes 30 or 40 at a time) and my geckos take turns in the tank and go on a feeding frenzy. :main_laugh:
I use white duct tape because it makes the crickets easy to see and it's easy to clean. The geckos cages stay cleaner also without dead crickets here and there.
