I recently acquired a baby albino leo. It hardly opens it's eyes. i've seen it open them maybe twice in the last 4 days. it seems to get around just fine but i've had to hand feed it just to make sure it does get something to eat. I know I know, take it to the vet. but for now, since i can't take it to the vet on sunday. can anyone give me any real assurances?

If you're using a light over the cage, get rid of it. Try feeding it in dim light. Albinos are very sensitive to the light.

I have a Bell Hybino that doesn't come out during the day at all and if she does she hardly opens her eyes and bumps into things, it's all due to her sensitivity to light. Once the sun starts to set she's out since I have a low wattage bulb on the opposite side of the room so theres a little bit of light but not enough to bother her. During that time she eats and runs around up till 6am. Once my light goes on in the morning she's off into her hide. With all that my leo stills sees her food and has a very good appetite and eats like a monster. She sometimes misses with it right in her face but it happens to the best of them.

i don't think you need to take her to the vet unless she has some serious issues with her eyes like stuck shed, crust, etc. or you have something else to check. Albinos/Hybinos are extremely sensitive to light.

All: THanks for the responses.

Lizmarie, thanks as well. What about a red bulb?

I have a bell albino that does not eat by herself. I hand feed her every other day. It is probably my fault tho because she was a rescue and she has been babied since day one. But I have a theory that albinos are pretty much blind. They would never make it in the wild at all.
