Question about dimmer and to high temperature

Hi, I know you're probably tired of hearing me asking random stupid question about tmeperature. But that's the last one hahah. I bought a rheostat and even if it's on low, the temperature on the hot side is 94. So right now it's ok but I know during the summer the ambiance air in the apartment gonna rise a good 6-7 degres (don't have an air conditionner). So I'm pretty sure when that time come it's gonna be WAY to hot in there.

My question is can I plug a dimmer on a dimmer? To maybe reduce the temperature of the first dimmer that's on low.

Thanks

Dimmer on a dimmer, um.. I don't think sooo.. I suggest that you wait for the summer and see if you can invest in a little thermostat. Some of the cheaper ones run $30-$40ish, give or tank. I know I need one badly because I have the same problem as you and it's a pain trying to adjust the temp.

Thanks for the reply. What brand are those thermostat. I can't find "plug-in" thermostat with a temperature probe.

See what temperature your floor is without the dimmer. If it's still too high, then no thermostat or dimmer is going to do anything because they can't make the temperature lower, only keep it from getting higher. If that's the case, try adding some layers to your substrate.

this is what i had to do. even with a dimmer the temp stayed at 95 and its getting warmer so i added three more layers of paper towels and that did the trick, its down to 92 and it stays there.

Actually, what I meant, is see what the floor temp is without the UTH or with the dimmer at its lowest setting. If you just eliminate the dimmer, then you have the UTH going at full blast. Sorry, it was early in the morning when I typed that.

A rheostat is great if you have a room that is at CONSTANT temperature and does not fluctuate throughout the course of day or night.

Sometimes a rheostat is not the best choice. Its a fancy dimmer really. Even in the lowest setting, there is still a small amount of electricity going into your heat source, so temperatures will continue to rise when ambient room temperature raises during the day and of course at night when your room cools down, the setting that you have on your rheostat is..... perfect :main_rolleyes:

A proportional thermostat is the way to go. You set the desire temperature and place the temp probe down and you are set. If your room heats up during the day from sunlight, etc, once you hit the temp that was set, there is NO current going to the heat source to further increase the temperature to your leos cage.
