Question about feeding my crestie crickets

I always leave some CGD (Crested Gecko Diet) food in his cage.. I *think* he eats it. That's what he was eating at the pet store when I bought him. My mom says she's seen him eat late at night. He's so little so I cant even tell if he's eating it. But he doesn't look too skinny or anything.

Anyways my real question is.. how do you feed your crestie's crickets? I know he eats them because I've seen him.. but I don't want to dump 5 or 6 cresties in his cage and if he doesn't eat them they just run around all the time. Do you all leave the crickets in the cage? I tried putting a few crickets in a small box with my crestie and he didnt want to eat anything. I think he was just focusing on getting out of the box. I dont know if I should put the crickets in his cage.. and let them just keep running around everywhere until he eats them or they die. what do you all do about crickets? Thanks!

i would put a few in there on the ground at night and remove the ones that he doesnt eat within an hour or so because crickets can bite the geckos but with crestys since they can climb unlike leo's you could probably put 3 or 4 in every night and see if he eats them by morning.

yeah i'll try that. it's just hard trying to find the crickets. they like to hide a lot.

is there anything i could do get him to eat his GCD? i *think* he does.. but the bowl always looks pretty full when i look at it.

I had a problem getting one of my cresteds to eat cdg as well so i dusted the crickets with a small amount of the powder for a few feedings then it got used to the taste and started eating it every time i put it in the cage.

the crickets seem too fast for my crested. he doesnt seem to really eat the CGD. i tried putting the crickets in a container with the crestie, but he just wants to get out instead of eat

When my crestie was young I would just dump the crickets in there and let him at them. He's in a planted tank so there's places for the crickets to hide and things for them to eat besides the crestie. I rarely have ever seen a cricket in there the next morning. I have left a bowl of CGD every other day and it didn't look as if he'd eaten anything till he was nearly a year old. Now there's CGD stains all over the glass sides so I know he's eating it and then walking in it and tracking it all over. He's a year old and 44 grams so I know he's eating something!

I put the crickets in the smallest size critter keeper(without the lid),and the cresties crawl in to get them......it doesn't take up much room in the cage, and it keeps the crickets from going everywhere.

thanks i just bought one. i hope he's smart enough to go INSIDE the top of the feeder to get the crickets instead of trying to break through the plastic. hopefully he'll eat them.

last night i put some CGD in a syringe and held it up to my crestie's mouth and he was licking it up.
