Question about purchasing.

Good Morning,

I recently purchased a Leo from PetDumb about 3 weeks ago.
Looks pretty young the employee at PetDumb couldn't give me a hatch date. Just simply stated that its a Juvenile.
So I have no clue how old he or she is. I know how to tell the sex but Charles is so jumpy that I just pretty much leave
him/her alone.

But I now want to purchase a Sunglow or Tangerine female from a breeder like I should have from the start.
My Question is, Whats a good age to purchase a Leo at? What are a few good things to ask the breeder?

& heres Charles the night I brought him/her home.

Its always good to know the weight, hatch dae is nice to know but not needed. 20grams is a good weight to buy at. also ask the breeder exactly what both parents are in case they breed and youll know more about what you have. for example i have a Female sunglow, she is beautiful but from looking at her you would really know that she is het for diablo blanco. so its just nice info to have. also ask the breeder what they have been feeding them so you know the current diet they are n which i thinks makes the move easier on them and less stress.

Is there any specific reason why I would have to use an completely different enclosure?

New geckos need to be quarantined away from each other for AT LEAST 90 days to prevent the spread of disease and parasites.

If you dont know the sex of either gecko, its best to have a seperate enclosure anyways to prevent fights and breeding. If they both turn out to be female, you can try to introduce them to each other but only after theyve been through the quarantine period, are the same size, and get along. Some females still fight.

Getting more than one gecko isnt just as easy as putting them all together, the supplies are all an added expense for each additional gecko.

Hope that helps.

Aside from the quarantine period, separate enclosures are a must in this case because of the size difference. If they're both males they may fight to the death. Obviously, if male and female you may eventually end up with more geckos and the male may harass/stress the female.

Two females can be housed together, but you must keep an eye out for one bullying the other by taking the other's hiding spot, laying on the other and taking over the feeding dish. Its best if they're around the same size. This also makes it more challenging to tell how much each gecko is eating or if one is not eating at all.

Makes perfect sense, thanks for breaking it down I really want a sunglow but I'm a take my hand with the one I have now.
As its very snappy and bites O_O think I'm a take it to a reputable pet store locally and have him/her sexed.

Its still a little small to tell, but once its 20 grams you can post a picture on here and it will be more than big enough to tell

They're very nippy when their small and stop biting as mature. Don't pull your hand back and it'll stop sooner. You can try putting it in a clear container and look through the bottom to sex it. But as Katie mentioned above, it may be difficult to tell if its under 20 grams.
