Question about seperating eggs from beetles mealworms

Almost two weeks have passed from when I have placed the beetles in their oats bin. Now I am going to remove the beetles and place them in a new oats bin. Now the question is how can I catch the beetles? I did not grind the oats.

Also should I start putting fresh carrots in the bin that is now free from the beetles but I suppose it should have eggs?

Take a handful of oat substrate, put it in another bin, pick out the beetles and put them in a third bin. Keep doing this until the original bin was empty, and you have 1 bin of beetles and 1 bin of oats. I'd recommend waiting a month rather than 2 weeks. Grind some oats for the next batch and put them in with the beetles. Put the oats somewhere with an occasional carrot for moisture and after awhile the worms will be big enough to see and then big enough to use.

I agree with Aliza, let them go for a month. Otherwise you are going to use a lot of oats and have a lot of containers with worms in a short time. I use feeding tongs to pluck beetles out for the changeover. It amuses the cat :)

For how long should I leave the carrot in the oats bin (the bin with the eggs only)?

I just leave the carrot (or other veggies) in until it gets consumed, dries up, or if it molds I take it right out.
